NEWS AND VIDEOS: Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has planned an 80-day voyage starting on February 23, 2023 based on the famous 1872 novel Around the World in 80 Days.
During the voyage, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines cruise ship Borealis guides you on an epic circumnavigation of the globe via Africa, Asia and the Americas so that you encounter many of the places that Phileas Fogg and his companion Passepartout visited.

Unlike Fogg, who famously rushed from one location to the next, you have ample time for discovery in each and every destination on this itinerary. In Egypt, visits to Port Said and Safaga – coinciding with the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamen – allow for tours to Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza, while there’s also a memorable transit of the Suez Canal.

During three days in India with Fred Olsen, explore historic Goa and Kochi, and feel the buzz of Mumbai, perhaps while sampling the busy daily life of local Dabbawalas. You could even opt for a journey to the famed Taj Mahal. You’ll get to engage with the wonders of modern Asia, amongst the impressive cityscapes, architectural highlights and cultural delights of Singapore and Hong Kong too, with the golden sands and verdant Vietnamese landscapes of Nha Trang providing a more traditional, laid-back experience in between.

As the Asian leg of your Fred Olsen voyage concludes, you’ll get to explore and feel the energy of bustling Shanghai and Tokyo, the Japanese capital. For a captivating contrast, the visit to Japan is timed to see the beautiful cherry blossom in full bloom, while you could also experience a traditional tea ceremony with a fifth generation tea master, meet Geishas and delve into Samurai heritage.

A journey across the Pacific Ocean includes three stops in Hawaii, to witness the active Kilauea volcano, learn of the island state’s unique cultural traditions, and indulge in a taste of paradise, before the Californian cities of San Diego and San Francisco, with its iconic sites such as Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, await.

You’ll then have chances to watch cliff-top divers in Acapulco, encounter amazing wildlife in Costa Rican rainforests, sample the rich history and authentic flavours of Colombia, and sail the Panama Canal before finally heading home.

Your Atlantic Ocean crossing is sure to be one to remember, with Borealis calling at Tortola, famed for its pirate history and Caribbean rum; St Kitts, with its world-renowned scenic railway; and the scenic Azores en route.
